The view from the porch  would be from the Aqueduct over the Potomac, and across Rock Creek to the Capitol and the unfinished Washington Monument.

The house was a 36’ X 46’ structure with walls 2’ thick.  The ground sloped away from the South front (with a porch) to the North where there was an outside entry door into the  basement story.
